Zenithal airbrush to quickly paint 15/18mm minis

Hello again all,
Yesterday I decided to try zenithal airbrush painting & was impressed with the amount of work you can save.

One of the things that puts me down is painting base coats. So I decided to try this.

1) Rattle can undercoat ( whether black, white grey or brown - I use )
2) Airbrush a darker shade of the final colour. ( You don't need a dual action airbrush for this,  I have a single action Humbrol studio 1 airbrush which I bought in 1983 !!! 😉
3) Airbrush a lighter shade aiming at the minis from the top, move the airbrush in a circle around each model, so as to get a 360 deg coverage.
4) Again from the top aiming down spray the final shade.

I use FW ,  Model colour & Vallejo Air colour. Mixing colours & brands as I see fit.

That's it , just 3 shades but a ton of work was saved. Now I have 4 or 5 alien factions which I can paint by brush when I feel like it.
Do try it out.

Thanks for your comments.

Rogue 1 for 15mm/28mm

Hello again all,
I found this superb model & decided to convert it to 15/28mm.
I removed the pilot compartment & built one out of card. Built a working ramp.
Painted the panel lines & wear.

Hear are pics of a starport scene, the containers are card models from Dave Graffam . I recommend these 100%. Cheap, super graphics just need a lot of work to build.

The plastic pilot compartment was sawed at the corners & reversed ( i.e. glued with the inside out) I will convert it to a grav vehicle , more on this in a later post.

Thanks for your comments.

15mm Khurasan & Critical Mass - The Kzin

Khurasan felids  & CMG Protolene don't disappoint one bit, great minis .

I called them Kzin as in Larry Niven's excellent books. Imagine a humanoid walking, extremely aggressive ,intelligent, brightly coloured feline , imagine that only warriors have the right to mate and you can imagine Kzin society.

I painted the minis like this – white spray undercoat,Vallejo Sand airbrushed base coat,Windsor & Newton Peat brown wash,GW Ivory successive drybrushes . Then detail with Scarlet,Flame Orange,Grey & grey Blue.

The Sand Earth basing is natural brown earth with pva, I envisaged these aliens as being desert plains creatures/mountain dwellers.
